As summer wraps up and the leaves start to change, I can’t help but feel a bit excited for the arrival of autumn. There’s something about this season that just makes my heart happy. The cooler weather means it’s time to gather around the table and dig into some hearty roast dinners.
After a summer full of Porkers on BBQs and outdoor fun, it’s nice to change gear and enjoy those cozy Sunday roasts. It’s a big tradition in our house where we all come together, chat about the week, and share what we’ve got planned next. Not forgetting the heated debates over the best joint of meat which always keeps things entertaining!
Will it be roast beef, pork, chicken, or lamb? Everyone’s got their fav, and the discussions about cooking times and the perfect trimmings can get pretty passionate. There’s always a big scrap between the kids though with who is down to do the dreaded washing up.
I’m obsessed with crispy roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and rich meaty gravy. Not forgetting the pigs in blankets which are a firm family fav. It might not be the speediest meal to cook, but seeing everyone’s happy faces makes it all worth it.
On those busy days, my slow cooker is my best mate. Whether it’s a delicious Bolognese with a mix of sausage and beef or a tasty curry, it’s such a lifesaver. There’s nothing better than being able to dish out a warm meal whenever you need it, especially after a long day in the office.
As the nights get cooler, I love curling up by the log fire with a blanket. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t enjoy a little post-roast nap? Waking up and sneaking some of those crispy bits left in the tray is one of life’s little joys.
So here’s to autumn! It’s all about warmth, good food, and spending time with loved ones. Let’s embrace the season, gather around the table, and enjoy those delicious roast dinners together!
