We are all huge fans of a Sunday roast, but have you ever cooked one on a BBQ? When the weather gets warmer, you definitely don’t want to be slaving away in front of a hot oven for hours. We really love doing our Sunday Roasts on the BBQ during Summer – they are perfect for if you are entertaining guests in your garden but still want to provide a proper feast. In our eyes, there’s no better meat for your Roast Dinner than our Great Taste Award winning Black Treacle Gammon Joint. Combined with our Black Treacle bacon wrapped Pigs in Blankets, this meat feast will be the best BBQ meal you’ve ever had!
BBQ Sunday Roast
Recipe Details
Ingredients
- 1 Jolly Hog Black Treacle Gammon Joint
- 1 pack of Jolly Hog Pigs in Blankets
- 1kg Potatoes
- 400g Parsnips
- 400g Carrots
- Salt
- Olive oil
- Pepper
- Honey
- Wholegrain mustard
- Sesame Seeds
Method
- Set the BBQ to heat up to maximum temperature.
- Use a fork to prick a couple holes around the gammon to allow the smoke to reach all parts of it.
- If placing on a direct heat, cover the gammon with foil and secure the package with toothpicks (dip these in water for a few minutes first to avoid them catching fire!)
- Place the Black Treacle Cured Gammon on the grill and leave for 3 hours, checking it occasionally.
- In the meantime, quarter the potatoes. Thinly slice the onions, and chop the carrots & parsnips into thick batons. You can add any vegetable you like here - we love the Sunday Roast Dinner classics like carrots and parsnips.
- Toss the potatoes in 2 tbsp of olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Toss the root vegetables and onions in a tsp of honey and a tsp of wholegrain mustard.
- Pop your potatoes and vegetables in some foil, wrapping up the foil to create an airtight parcel.
- Check on your gammon joint and remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of grilling.
- Add the foil package of potatoes & vegetables onto your BBQ for 15 minutes then turn. Add your pack of black treacle pigs in blankets to the BBQ, turning halfway.
- After another 15 minutes, or when the potatoes are cooked, take them off, alongside the gammon joint & enjoy!
- Sprinkle your veg with sesame seeds for an additional crunch.
