Marmite Rarebit
Recipe Details
Ingredients
- 2 of The Jolly Hog and Marmite Sausages
- 2 slices of sourdough bread
- 30g unsalted butter
- 30g plain flour
- 125ml beer or milk
- 125g cheddar
- A tsp of Marmite (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Chives and salad to garnish
Method
- Heat your oven to 180 degrees. Once heated, add The Jolly Hog and Marmite sausages and cook according to pack instructions.
- Whilst the sausages are cooking, make the sauce. If using the beer, gently warm it in a pan and then set it aside for later.
- In another saucepan, heat the butter until it has melted and then add the flour. Whisk the flour and butter to combine and cook over the heat for a couple of minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the beer (or milk if using) until a thick sauce forms. Whisk well at this stage to avoid any lumps in the mixture! Add the grated cheese, Worcestershire sauce and a dollop of marmite if using and stir over the heat until all melted and combined.
- Remove the cooked sausages from the oven and heat the grill. Lightly toast one side of each piece of bread then remove.
- Slice each of the sausages longways. Spread half of the cheese sauce over one slice, then top with the sliced sausages. Place the second slice of bread on top and then coat the top of this slice with the remaining cheese sauce. Pop under the grill until the mixture is golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped chives and a fresh green salad. Enjoy!
